Tim: During my career I have admired many creative thinkers that have helped to shape the way I look at the world creatively , from film makers, painters, furniture designers, graphic artist; the list is endless. I fear that if I suggest one individual today my choice may change tomorrow.

Tim: Assisting a lead designer is no easy job, it takes dedication and patience. For me the characteristics I most look for are positive energy and a positive outlook. A person who is free in thought, has an intelligent point of view and can think outside the box.

Tim: We try to train our people in a thorough and professional manner within a collaborative and creative environment. Creativity is driven by confidence and self worth, so we strongly encourage our young designers to have a voice and express their opinions. Gensler places great emphasis on an individuals self improvement no matter how long they’ve been with the business or at what level, through workshops, seminars and retreats. Recently the company has launched a Global Exchange programme where selected employees spend time in other offices across the globe to learn skills that they may not be exposed to in their everyday office.

Tim: The greatest opportunity lies in working with an exceptional global organisation; an organisation that treasures creativity and innovative thinking. The opportunity to work across numerous design sectors with some of the worlds most reputed companies in a multi cultural environment.

Many young designers believe that design is about self expression….it isn’t. Often inexperienced designers succumb to being more interested in technique rather than an ‘organizing idea’ – the means rather than the end. This is a hobbyist tendency at the early stages of a career. The challenge lies in the designer understanding the agenda behind the work, the purpose of the work and it’s intended audience.

Tim: First and foremost to have a great couple of days with some of China’s best young talent. Obviously the ultimate expectation is to find the appropriate candidate, however I enjoy the event immensely, it’s a great to meet the sponsors and talk about design.
